14 March 2011 - The Hymn Jesus Sang
(Devotional Thought for Lent)

"When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives."
-- Matthew 26:30

"This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." -- Psalm 118:24

On the night Jesus was betrayed, the Passover celebration concluded with the singing of Psalms 115-118. Yes, with only a little time remaining before his arrest, trial, and crucifixion, Jesus and his disciples sang, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." (Ps 118:24)

Consider that Jesus, knowing the cross that was coming, sang and rejoiced in that day his Father had made. Let us have the same attitude as Jesus. Let us rejoice and be glad in each day and for all that God has done for us.

"On that day the announcement to Jerusalem will be, 'Cheer up, don't be afraid. For the Lord your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will give you victory. He will rejoice over you in great gladness; he will love you and not accuse you.' Is that a joyous choir I hear? No, it is the Lord himself exulting over you in happy song." -- Zephaniah 3:16-17 (TLB)

25Aug11 - Psalm 90:14

"O satisfy us in the morning with Thy lovingkindness, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days." -- Psalm 90:14

"Now when the builders had laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord according to the directions of King David of Israel. And they sang, praising and giving thanks to the Lord, saying 'For He is good for His lovingkindness is upon Israel forever." And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the Lord because of the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid."
-- Ezra 3:10-11

The four living creatures said, 'Amen,' and the elders fell down and worshipped.' " -- Revelation 5:13-14
