17Jan10 - Bible Verses About Music - Psalm 71:22-23
"I will praise you with music, telling of your faithfulness to all your promises, O Holy One of Israel. I will shout and sing your praises for redeeming me." -- Psalm 71:22-23 (The Living Bible)
30Jan10 - Bible Verses About Music - Zephaniah 3:14-17- God Sings
"Sing, O Daughter of Zion; shout aloud, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. On that day they will say to Jerusalem, 'Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands hang limp. The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.' " -- Zephaniah 3:14-17 (NIV)
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that you delight in us, that you quiet us with your love, and that you rejoice over us in singing. Thank you, Lord, that you encourage us, so our hands do not need to hang limp, for you are mighty to save. Help us, Lord, to listen to your voice, and with grateful hearts to sing and shout aloud your praises.
21Mar10 - Bible Verses About Music - Psalm 33:1-3
"Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy." -- Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV)
"Let all the joys of the godly well up in praise to the Lord, for it is right to praise him. Play joyous melodies of praise upon the lyre and on the harp. Compose new songs of praise to him, accompanied skillfully on the harp; sing joyfully." -- Psalm 33:1-3 (TLB)
Consider the musical imperatives in these verses: Sing joyfully. Sing to the Lord, that is, worship focuses on God, not us. Use and include musical instruments in worship. Create new songs of praise. Play and sing skillfully.
New songs well up from God's deliverance and saving acts in our lives. New songs also come from God's direct inspiration in us, as well as from our devotion for God and our desire to praise God. God continues to inspire new music today, just as he has inspired people through the centuries to create beautiful music. We should embrace both the "traditional" and the "contemporary" in our worship music.
